office area 6

Hi everyone! It’s Michaela here, back to show you a sneak peek of my apartment. As a young creative entrepreneur, I am an apartment dweller. And for the time being, I’m quite alright with that! I’m a firm believer in making your home, no matter the size, into a place you feel comfortable and somewhere that functions the way you need it to. Because I own my interior design business, I work from home, so it is so important to me that my apartment be a place I simply love.

Working from home has it’s pros and cons. One pro is I can work in my PJs all day, without anyone knowing, while a con would be the fact that I sleep, eat, relax, and work all in the same place. And that place is a small apartment. (I’m so thankful for my vaulted ceilings, making the space feel much bigger than it is.) For the last year I’ve lived here, I haven’t had a proper work space. I’ve worked from my couch (the worst idea ever!) and from my kitchen table. I was searching for a small desk for what seemed like forever, and just a few months ago, I finally found a perfect fit!

Since I only have a one bedroom apartment, whatever desk I found would have to plop right in my living room, so it had to blend with my other furniture and aesthetic. I found this shabby chic desk at a local antique store in Michigan.  Anyways, let’s get to the little makeover of this corner in my tiny home. Above is the blank before and below is how I finished off the space, making it more functional and pretty. Read on for my thought process when decorating the space:

First, because I have vaulted ceilings, I knew I needed something to add height to this corner, grounding the space a bit. This Crackle Shelf was the perfect addition. We accented the shelf by resting it on top of the prettiest Weathered Twirls brackets.

To decorate the corner, I stacked some books, an hourglass, metal letter, and a beautiful calligraphy print by Graceline Art. Layering with different accessories and textures is key to creating a home that looks like that’s been established over time, instead of one that was thrown together from your local home superstore.

On my desk is the cutest pen and pencil caddy. Sadly mine is sold out, but there are similar options here. It’s a wooden rectangle with floral paintings on the front– perfect for my shabby chic style. I also love my monogrammed business card holder.

A tray finishes off my desk look and keeps me really organized! So does my Kate Spade planner. My tray is no longer available, but this one and this one are equally as cute.

This pillow is one of my favorite things. It’s a seaglass color with gold viscose threads running throughout it– so lovely! It’s from Lilac & Grace, my pillow cover etsy shop. My desk chair came from World Market.

A fun task lamp is always necessary on your desk! Not only does it add height, but it’s functional, too.

I love Anthro’s home decor, because they have such unique and different items. This little space functions really well for me, as I spend my days working from home. How have you decorated your desk area?

Have a wonderful week!

xoxo

I love your little workspace! So bright and cheerful! I’ve been eyeing that chair for so long! Would you share how you like it? Is it good for long periods of ‘working’? Thanks!
