According to most health experts, if you are a moderately active woman, you should have AT LEAST 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of veggies per day. Wow. That’s a lot of crunching. ๐Ÿ˜› To make things easy, I’ve found blending up my fruits and vegetables into smoothies ensures I eat the proper amount daily.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in not only my health and energy from the smoothies, but in my hair, skin, nails too! That’s why I call this the “Beauty Smoothie”!

Spinach for instance has become a staple in my smoothies. It’s tasteless and super rich in nutrients and antioxidants! Which means my blender is always overflowing with this stuff. Most green veggies are considered “detox” foods too, which most girls love to hear- haha! Green veggies contain chlorophyll which rids the body of environmental toxins, heavy metals, herbicides, and pesticides. Spinach is also rich in vitamin A which improves skin tone and C which helps with growth and repair of skin cells.

Being rich in vitamin K and folate also helps acne, bruising, and dark circles. Spinach also combats hair loss with vitamins B, C and E, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. BananaThe second staple in my beauty smoothie is banana. Sometimes I freeze the bananas and it tastes even better in the smoothies. Bananas not only make the smoothie creamy, but they can be really filling. The B Vitamins & Potassium help with nerve function and brain power. (Increasing brain power = beauty) While the C & B6 vitamins help elasticity of the skin!

40berriesThe third ingredient I love is berries. Berries have a high amount of antioxidants and my favorite is blueberries! They were ranked number one in antioxidant activity by the U.S. Department of Agriculture compared to 40 other fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants are what protect you from premature aging!

carrot-fbCarrots are our 4th ingredient. Carrots have been known to improve vision and slow down aging with vitamin A and beta-carotene. Vitamin A also prevents wrinkling, acne, dry skin, pigmentation, blemishes, and uneven skin tone. Bye bye problem skin!

flaxseedFlax seed is our 5th ingredient and it’s great for heart health. It contains omega-3 essential fatty acids which are “essential” because our body doesn’t produce it. Flax is also high in soluble & insoluble fiber which helps not only our digestive tract to keep us regular ๐Ÿ™‚ but our cholesterol!

If you want your smoothie a bit sweeter, try adding local honey. Some people call honey “liquid gold” for its anti-inflammatory properties, it helps with allergies (no one wants a Rudolph nose), and it’s a natural antibiotic.

The last ingredient is to add some liquid to the smoothie to help it blend. In green smoothies or any with vegetables, sometimes adding a citrus fruit helps with the taste. I usually use orange juice, but sometimes will squeeze some lemon juice in it too. Orange juice boosts your immune system, helps with circulation, and is rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. As far as lemons, they are an alkaline food, that helps balance your pH and it helps with your digestive tract!

Enough talk, here is the recipe and a few of my favorite blenders that will blend these ingredients to perfection!!!!!

2 huge handfuls of spinach (or kale)

One banana, frozen

 One cup of berries

One medium carrot, peeled and chopped

 One tablespoon flax seed

One cup of fruit juice (Orange)

 One tablespoon honey, optional

The juice of 1/2 a lemon, optional

Add all ingredients to your blender. Blend to a smooth consistency! Enjoy!!!
