There is nothing I enjoy more than lounging in the sun, husband by my side, coconut drink in hand, and the smell of the ocean in the air. If that could be an everyday occurrence then sign me up!

A few weeks ago, Chris and I packed our bags and headed to Jamaica for some fun in the sun, and the grand opening of the Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. I had only been to Jamaica once before this trip, about 8 years ago during a cruise, so we’re not going to count that and just say it was the first time the both of us have ever experienced the beautiful island of Jamaica.

The flight from Seattle to Jamaica was about 8 hours total, but the distance was not bad at all for us. For Chris to be ok with a long flight was a BIG deal because he absolutely hates long flights. A layover in Dallas and movies to watch while Chris took a nap made the distance worth it and the flight enjoyable. 😉

Just like we have a thing for traveling, we also have a thing for genuine people and fell in love with the people of Jamaica! From the moment we got off the plane to the customized service provided by the resort, we were in a trance of euphoria and nothing could wipe the childish grins (or silly looks) off of our faces.

There isn’t a language barrier on the island or at the resort that may effect directions or getting answers, and everyone we met went out of their way to create an unforgettable experience.

Perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday or vacation! They have the entertainment when wanted and the privacy when needed.

The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort was incredible too! We were pleasantly surprised by the many delicious restaurants, events, entertainment and places to go. A lot of times with large resorts I just assume that the pool and restaurants will be crowded, but to our liking, there was always an available spot at the pool, times to get into dinner and things to do without long lines.

We even made a few friends during our stay that made the conversation, stories, and nights out even more fun! The Rabbit Hole Speakeasy is a must if you stay at Sandals Ochi Beach.

We happened to be there during a storm so the last few days were a little overcast and rainy, but that didn’t stop us from going to the pool and soaking it all up! Any island on the Caribbean can be rainy at times but with such high humidity, warmth and sun breaks, it isn’t bad at all and won’t ruin a trip.

Sandals gives back to their communities by supplying their neighboring schools with backpacks, weekly reading visits, and so much more! We were lucky enough to join in one of the visits and meet the sweet kids of Boscobel Primary School. Sandals Foundation donated a new computer lab for the kids, so we got to be apart of that special moment.

The dance teams put on a really great performance while the little actors and actresses showed off their skills with an adorable skit. Their ‘Pledge’ listed on the wall was so touching to read and something that we all should keep in mind. I couldn’t get enough of these kids! They were all so excited to have visitors and an impromptu acoustic performance by Mark Ballas (DWTS) and his girlfriend, BC, was the ultimate treat for them.

Hanging out with these kids made our day and left an impression upon our hearts. We hope to come back to visit again soon or support the Sandals Foundation wherever we go.

The fun didn’t end there as we had a party to attend that night celebrating the grand opening of the Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. It was a slightly rainy night, but that didn’t put a damper on the events that were to take place.

The opening ceremony included a dance, songs, and words from the Sandals CEO and Jamaica’s Prime Minister. It was quite the show!  Delicious food, of all kinds, was set up along the side of the pool area for people to enjoy during the ceremony and the bars were stocked full, but the biggest attraction of the night was a performance by Shaggy!

Here is a little sneak peek for you to feast your eyes on… (click link)

SHAGGY

Overall, our trip to Jamaica was one for the books. We left with a smile on our face, joy in our hearts, new friends in our phones, a tan on our skin, and an appreciation for the people of Jamaica. Yeh-Mon!
