Yes, You Can Plan Your Wedding From Your Phone! #AskDes

Welcome, welcome! It’s Wednesday so it’s that time when I answer the wedding planning and styling questions you submitted on social media using #AskDes.

This past month! Let’s see…I went to the Make My Day Wedding Expo where my gowns were the guests of honor and featured in a fashion show, had a staycation with Chris at the AC Hotel Bellevue, announced my first wedding gown giveaway (you can still enter! If you haven’t yet, go here), and cut the ribbon with some other Bachelorette alums for the opening of WEtv’s hilariously fun Bridezillas Museum of Natural Hysteria in NYC. Whew! Talk about busy and blessed!

At the same time, I tried to sneak in some small pleasures–you know, the kind that feed your soul. I read some great books (my sister via Bachelor Nation, Andi Dorfman, wrote this fun memoir that’s both sassy and sweet) and began stretching each morning (tip: if you’re super busy, it’s a great way to center yourself and doesn’t take a lot of time). I also soaked up as much time with my boys, Asher, Chris, and Frankie. It’s these types of simple pleasures that truly make a difference. As we gear up for March, I encourage you, no matter how busy you are, to take time for yourself. Read. Drink tea. Go on walks. Cuddle the ones you love. It makes all the busyness so worth it.

Now, onto the questions!

Margo asks: What are your fave wedding planning tools?

There are so many wedding resources out there–so many, in fact, that it can get overwhelming. I’ve broken down my faves and what they’re best at!

For Checklists:

Zola. Consider this little app to be your new best friend. Zola has custom checklists that will keep you on track and let you check off tasks as you get them done. It’s great for organization, making sure you don’t forget things, and guiding your planning.

For Finding Vendors:

Style Me Pretty. You probably already know about this wedding inspiration mecca. But did you know this lovely site also has vendor referrals and registry guides? These tools are tailored for finding trusted industry professionals and helping you figure out what your registry needs for your home and lifestyle.

For Budgeting Guidance:

The Knot. Got budgeting blues? Turn to The Knot! This site has a wonderful, interactive budgeting tool that helps you allocate your money per category.

For Inspo:

Pinterest, natch! We all know how awesome it is for creating mood boards. But also Instagram–accounts for wedding magazines like Brides Magazine have lots of inspirational images. Also, our Instagram, @desireehartsock, features images that have caught our eye and made us gasp. From rings to gowns to invites, you’ll find images that will set your imagination ablaze!

For wedding planning tips:

In need of complete planning guidance? My book, My Fairy Tale Wedding: Planning Your Dream Wedding Without Breaking the Bank, is a comprehensive tutorial on wedding planning! It’s inspired by both my own experience as a bride and the other brides I’ve worked with over the years.

With these resources, you’ll have every area of your wedding planning covered!

Nora asks: I keep hearing about wedding related apps. Are they helpful?

Yes! We shop, buy, and connect with our phones–now, with these wedding apps, you can plan your wedding from your phone! These are my faves (and most of them are free!):

Table Plan: Forget using sticky-notes and poster board. You can layout your wedding tables and figure out who will sit where with this easy, interactive app!

Tie the Knot: This one adds a bit of fun and frivolity to your wedding planning. It’s a tracker that counts down to the big day. It helps add excitement and anticipation as your day draws near.

Wedding Lookbook: Browse gowns, rings, bridesmaid dresses, and flower girl dresses on this app. You can narrow by categories (like A-line or Sheath). It’s a great way to get a start on your wedding gown shopping!

Joy: Forget disposable cameras on your guests tables–this photo app lets you collect and share pictures from your guests. It enables you to see your day from a variety of perspectives and you can share the photos with others on the app.

Happy Wedding Planning! Check back next Wednesday for more questions and answers!
