Valentine’s Day is the creme-de-la-creme of romantic holidays. From red roses to a box of chocolates and all of the sweet kisses in between, I am here to make this Valentine’s Day one to remember. We all have that go-to dress in our closet that makes us feel like Beyoncé, right? What if every dress you ever wear from now on made you feel that way?
Well, welcome to my new series ‘Style Your Shape’ where I am going to do just that! With over a decade working directly with brides in finding their dream dress along with a design background, I have an eye for silhouettes and details to flatter every shape. AND… I can’t wait to help you pinpoint different styles to keep in mind and to share my top picks for every special event this year.
Whether you have plans to share this Valentine’s day with a loved one or a night out with your girlfriends, I’ve picked out the perfect dress to flatter your specific shape. Just match your shape up to one of these beautiful ladies below.
Why I chose it: When your bottom half is larger than your top, the main goal is to balance out the proportion with the styles you choose. The cap sleeve on this dress offers the illusion of a wider or fuller top to offset the bottom half while the detail of the tie emphasizes Jordan’s narrow waist. The curved hemline is also flattering to the overall shape.
Why I chose it: The shift style of this dress softly flows from the bust to the hem without clinging or bringing attention to areas we want to flatter. The high neck and shape of the top helps to visually make Krissy’s shoulders and top look more narrow while the flounce of the skirt helps balance out the entire look. The keyhole is a wonderful detail to enhance and flatter Krissy’s perks of having a new baby. 🙂
Dress: Revolve Dress (similar style)
Why I chose it: For Lauren’s shape, I want to enhance her waist- to add more dimension- and why the waistband is a great detail to do so. Also, the unique strapless neckline gives more curve to her overall shape and flatters her bust. Lace is always a nice touch too!
Dress: Lulu’s Heart’s Content dress
Why I chose it: For an hourglass shape like Danie, instead of trying to ‘hide’ curves, it really is best to show them off in a classy way. For instance, this dress shows off her curves but the pretty scallop neckline offers coverage and modesty that balances out the fitted look.
Dress: Asos Love Triangle Dress
Why I chose it: Being tall and slender, Sheena can wear practically anything and why this pencil dress silhouette works so well. The placement fits her exactly where it should, where other body shapes may need alterations. The nude lining with red lace overlay gives more dimension to her shape offering a little bit more curve to her tall frame.
Dress: Jill Stuart Jumpsuit
Why I chose it: Anyone under 5’4″ is considered petite and Gaylin is maybe 5′ so it’s nice to be able to dress her to show what can flatter the more petite ladies out there. The main reason I chose this jumpsuit was for the waistline placement. This style has the waistline up higher than many which gives the illusion of longer legs- in turn making someone appear taller than they are. I wish I had video of this to show the dimension and how flattering it is with the movement but lesson learned and I’ll do that next time. The neckline is also a nice shape and not overpowering her tiny frame.
Dress: Macy’s Fit & Flare Dress (similar style)
Why I chose it: Natasha is beyond beautiful with a great hourglass figure and why I loved this dress for many reasons- 1.) the neckline offers coverage and minimizes a large bust.. 2.) the elastic waist cinches the waistline and is comfortable to wear.. 3.) the gathering at the waistline is a flattering detail 4.) Lace is always pretty.
Dress: Asos Maternity Bardot Dress
Why I chose it: There aren’t many options to choose from when searching for maternity dresses but I have found that Asos is a great spot- just make sure to pull the plug the second you like something otherwise it will be sold out when you actually decide on it. Anyways- Sara looks phenomenal for being 8 months pregnant and can really wear anything but this elegant silhouette gives the right amount of curve to her growing baby bump.
