Sometimes, the perfect ceremony and reception site is just outside of your window! If you have a spacious backyard and dream of a lighthearted, sunshine-filled affair, you might want to consider ‘booking’ it as your wedding venue. Not only can you save money, but you’ll have the freedom to decorate how you want and no time constraints! And, our most favorite part of all, you get to create a special memory in a place you’ll get to revisit over and over again (and, later on down the road, have as the setting for children’s birthdays and anniversary parties as your love story continues to unfold!).
Here is some of our favorite backyard wedding inspo. Check it out for ideas on the ceremony area, cocktail hour setup, and reception layout–and then scroll to the bottom for our backyard wedding must-haves!
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
If you select your backyard as your wedding, you will have to make arrangements for seating, food, the bar, and restrooms. It’s a good idea to hire a coordinator to help you connect with the right vendors for all these needs.
Check the weather. You’ll want to make sure there are fair skies ahead for your wedding. If the temps might be a little dicey, consider renting a tent, awnings, and heat lamps in case of sprinkles or wind.
If your residence is located in a neighborhood, be sure to set up signs on the lawn directing guests how to get to the backyard and decide ahead of time if the home itself will be off limits to foot traffic.
Since you’ll probably have lots of deliveries happening before the wedding (such as chairs and tables, portable kitchen, etc), you’ll want to make sure your street is wide enough to accommodate them all. If you live on a narrow road, think about staggering delivery times to avoid clogged streets and angry neighbors.
Since you’ll probably be walking on grass, pick out some pretty bridal wedges and get your bridesmaids heel stoppers to make sure they are extra secure and stable (we have the some curated here at the end of the post).
