With touches of rustic and a whole lot of whimsy, Jen and Brenton’s wedding is one of those effortlessly perfect events that make us ask, “how did they do that?” Because, for real, this affair is basically everything Pinterest is made of! Just take a look at Jen’s flowy gown, mismatched bridesmaids dresses in the softest shades of blush, and the oh-so-sweet flower box centerpieces. Talk about bridal dreams coming true!
Does this leave you wanting a whimsical wedding of your own? Here are our top eight tips for infusing your wedding day with romance, sweetness, and style.
Pick a delicate invitation
Custom illustrations of the bride and groom? Don’t mind if we do! Take a note from Jen and Brenton and get personal with an illustrated invitation suite. Not only will your guests be tickled to see your likenesses on their invites, but the light colors and delicate sketches will draw them into your wedding style. Add in an envelope in blush, lilac, peach, or light blue to complete the look. Need to save money but still want a whimsical invite? Pick one in a watercolor wash with floral accents from a wedding invitation site for the same feel!
Wear an ethereal gown
Select a gown that is as light and romantic as your wedding! Fabrics like chiffon, tulle, and organza with lace details are both light and fashion-forward. And, if you want a touch of sparkle, you can add in a narrow belt. It won’t detract from your style but will add a hint of of bling while emphasizing your natural waist. And, when going for a whimsical wedding, color is your friend! Consider a dress with a champagne or blush lining for a feel that is dreamy yet still completely bridal.
Put your ladies in soft tones
These wispy, barely-blush bridesmaids dresses are the epitome of whimsy! With mismatched necklines and variant shades of blush, these dresses are beyond stunning in the subtlest way. Pick a light fabric and color for your leading ladies. Worried about making sure your different styles go together? Just make sure that there is one unifying factor. For Jen’s bridal party, all the dresses were from the same color family and the silhouettes were all slim, making cohesion easy peasy. Side note–check out that adorable flower girl in her sparkly little dress! Add to your midsummer feel by putting your bridal party’s littlest in something frothy and glittery.
Set the stage
You can’t get more whimsical than draperies and dripping blooms! Jen and Brenton had their wedding arch decorated with both and it was absolutely stunning. You can do the same by adorning your ceremony arch with a garland of blooms, swathes of tulle, or a romantic chandelier (these will all work with a gazebo, too!). It will immediately immerse your guests in a wonderland of chic sweetness and will frame your ceremony photos with pure loveliness.
Set up rustically romantic centerpieces
This mix of glass, wood, and flowers is the epitome of whimsical–and, when it comes to centerpieces, creative and fun! You can source the glass and wooden boxes from flea markets, thrift stores, and yard sales prior to the big day. Just keep an eye out for candle holders, vases, and boxes and start early so you can get enough for all your tables. You can also save on your floral budget by purchasing long-stem, free-standing flowers and arranging them yourself in thin vases that you then place in wooden boxes. Afterwards, you’ll have tons of prettiness for your house that will remind you of your wedding.
Use loose greenery
Fill out your tablescapes with loose greenery! These artful, free-falling leaves will add that romantic, weeping willow feel to your reception. You can easily create these tableaus yourself since a natural, less-than-perfect arrangement is exactly what you want. Just go for magnolia, eucalyptus or lemon leaves. These have an organic drape to them that makes it look like they’ve fallen into place. Put them on the edges of your sweetheart table and dessert display for a bewitching look. In addition, you can also weave them down the center of a long table or place them along the top of a chalkboard or mirror sign. Your guests will be completely enchanted!
Go simple and elegant with your cake
This cake is so stunningly simple. The ingredients for such a look? Here is the styling breakdown: an all-white, timeless three-tiered cake and with fresh flowers on each layer and a pretty little grouping on top. And, like the centerpieces mentioned above, this is a great money-saving option because you don’t have to splurge on extras like buttercream designs or sugar paste flowers–yet it looks like you spent a ton! Go you!
Add some naked cakes to your dessert display
If you want to diversify your dessert display, adding in some smaller naked cakes is a great way to go! Take your cue from these delectable cakes. The use of berries, exposed cake layers, and soft cream on top is both whimsical and rustic at the same time. Place them on different stands (feel free to mix the heights of the stands and types of glass–colored and clear work together beautifully) with some small vases for the dreamiest–and yummiest–cake table ever!
Enjoy the romance of the day. The magic of a whimsical wedding comes from inside of you!
