Des’s Weekly Devotional: WEEK 7

Happy Sunday!

I hope that you have enjoyed my weekly devotional thus far and look forward to coming back each week. If you are just starting my devotional, then WELCOME! Feel free to go back to read the past weeks or continue on from here for a positive start to your week.

Each week will include a message, verse, question, and action to keep at the forefront of your mind and get you through the week on an uplifted note.

When you look into the mirror, what do you see? As females, we tend to focus solely on what we think and see as negative aspects of our appearance. Social media has made this a daily occurrence for us, as we compare our lives, our figures, our careers and appearances with others. It is a false representation to compare since filters, camera angles and photoshop can alter any image, showing only an ‘ideal’ version of the person.

God made each one of us unique in His own image. Each one of us is meant to have different features and different talents. He alone knows how those strengths and features will shape our lives and why He gave them to us. We may not see the beauty in our ‘flaws’ right now but the more we can accept and love ourselves, the more we will see what God sees in us.  I think we should be reminded of that more often with the many distractions that cause comparison.

Magazines, advertisements, and movies are an added force as to why we may believe we need to change things about ourselves. They depict models and actors to be “perfect” in the media’s eye but God made you exactly how he wanted you to look. All of God’s creation is beautiful because they were made in His image.. and that means you!

He created you to stand out and to embrace differences so that you can walk confidently in this world. Be-you-tiful!

Genesis 1:27  So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Are there any aspects of my appearance that I do not like or tend to feel insecure about? How can I embrace my appearance and love myself for who God created me to be?

Every time you look into the mirror this week, see yourself the way God sees you and repeat the words “You are beautiful”. It may seem silly at first but the more you affirm it to yourself, the more confident you will begin to feel until all you can see is beauty.
