Today is Mother’s Day. A day to be with family, to remember, to love and to celebrate the one whom we call ‘mom’.
My mom, Roxanne, is a beautiful soul that loves to help and care for others. She puts God first in everything that she does and her faith alone is an inspiration I will always hold dear. Growing up I don’t know if I gave her the credit or attention that she truly deserved for all of her care, her guidance, and her instruction.
As I look back, I could’ve used that motherly counsel far more than my independent self ever allowed. Since we can’t go back in time to my adolescence, I will share how incredible of a mom, a woman, a wife, and a friend she is.
The older I get, the more I understand my mom and everything that she has gone through in her life. It’s funny how time creates a mirror that morfs our reflection into our parents. Not necessarily in our appearance, but in our actions, our personalities and our quirks. There are often times I will say something to Chris and can hear my mom saying that same thing.
It’s not just the quirks that make their way into our lives, it’s the understanding of the life our parents led that we didn’t know when we were children. The stories, the struggles, the losses, and the joys create a deeper admiration each day.
The jobs my mom took when we were kids showed the passion she had to care for others. From working with special needs children in elementary to being a caretaker for the elderly, her love shined through and continues to do so to this day.
My mom’s laugh is infectious and her jokes can get a reaction out of anyone! Her dimple is adorable and she has the courage and boldness of a lion. She is funny and open and loves absolutely everyone. I am lucky to have a mother like her and continue to learn from her each step of the way. I cherish her strength and hope one day to be the mother she always is to us.
My memories of her always stem from church or her outward praise throughout the day. I’m going to leave you with a few of her daily prayers, verses and sayings that have stuck with me to this day. Now I repeat them every morning without realizing it! 😉
Like mother, like daughter. I love you mom!
“Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!”
“Today is a good day, a day for rejoicing, a day for God’s power to work.”
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”
Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful mothers out there! 😉
