As we go about our week there are tons of distractions that can leave the body and mind feeling empty and dark. We may think that happy hours or afternoon hang outs with friends will help brighten our week/ day/ hour but the truth is is that we can’t rely on other people or other things to fulfill our lives. We must feel the light and joy within ourselves so that we can be an outward light to others.
Matthew 5:14-16 says “14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Another verse is Luke 11:33-36 to check out.
If our minds aren’t at peace or struggling with adversities then we cannot be the light needed to help others. In the same manner we cannot show God’s glory in our lives if our focus is on confusion, hurt, ways and things of this World or who is going to comment on your selfie. It’s as easy as being kind to a stranger or being the first to smile even if someone doesn’t smile back. It’s wanting to be an example that can actually brighten other people’s day.
Let’s take this week to not dwell on the uncontrollable or be down about a problem at work, school, life, or a relationship but focus our mind and time on being a light. You never know how it can end up changing your world.
